En 2015, 193 Estados Miembros adoptaron la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible; en ella se establecieron 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), que buscan erradicar la pobreza, proteger el planeta, asegurar la prosperidad para todos y todas y visibilizar los temas prioritarios para el desarrollo sostenible.
La Alianza para Promover los ODS es una iniciativa conjunta de CIFAL Merida, el Aeropuerto Internacional de Merida y UNICEF que tiene como objetivo difundir la Agenda 2030 y los ODS ante los diferentes sectores de la sociedad mexicana, específicamente los pasajeros y visitantes que transitan a traves del Aeropuerto Internacional de Merida.
