Objectifs du cours
At the end of the workshop, learners should be able to: Have a deepened understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Develop plans to implement the Sustainable Development Goals into the education curriculum for grade levels from kindergarten through 12th grade. Promote sustainable development in youth centered events.
Contexte
A student leader at Maryknoll school in Honolulu, Hawaii reached out to CIFAL Honolulu to request training on the Sustainable Development Goals with the intention of bringing it to her school and implementing more curriculum and action surrounding the goals and sustainable development of Hawaii. She also used this opportunity to familiarize herself more with the SDGs in preparation for the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum.
Contenu et structure
The first day of the SDG training covered an in-depth overview about the SDGs and the targets and indicators that accompany them. During this lesson, there were discussions on how to implement the SDGs into youth education programs. During the remainder of the semester, the SDGs were a focal point of the school's sustainability initiative. The second meeting commenced during the summer, and topics of discussion involved recalling the semester's activities at the school, and to gain more insight about improving sustainability education for the 2026-2027 school year at Maryknoll.
Méthodologie
In addition to the reflection over the past semester regarding the Sustainable Development Goals, the participant arrived with a list of questions to gain more insight about what further their school could do to improve sustainability education accessibility based on her observations over the course of the previous months.
