This one-hour interactive workshop, organized jointly by UNITAR and WSIS, as part of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, is designed to introduce participants to the World Summit on the Information Society process. The session will cover the creation of WSIS, its unique multistakeholder approach, the key action lines, and the future outlook as well as key events to follow during the Forum.

Digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) interact with diplomacy along three axes: agency, process and subject matter. This workshop will explore how digital technologies and AI impact and change the agents of diplomacy, including facilitating the participation of new actors in international debates.

As the world approaches 2030, the global community faces a pivotal moment in its sustainable development journey—one that demands both continued implementation of the SDGs and a deeper understanding of their real-world impact. Evaluating progress, identifying gaps, and drawing lessons from local experiences are essential to ensure inclusive and effective action.

This briefing inaugurates the 2025 series and represents the first joint initiative between UNITAR and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), convened under the auspices of the AI Skills Coalition.
