This e-learning course aims at strengthening knowledge and empowering stakeholders from different sectors about the importance, implications, and impact on the fight against corruption of the work of parliamentarian women. To prepare this learning tool, good practices and challenges, together with relevant elements such as leadership, governance and transparency, laws and advocacy practices have been taking into consideration.

背景信息

Parliamentarian women play a crucial role in the fight against corruption through various means, including in the adoption of laws and the public budget, as well as the oversight of Governments’ laws, policies, and the implementation of recommendations coming from the ratification of international treaties.

Having the opportunity to be elected through democratic processes is essential towards more inclusive and better societies for all. Their participation in decision making processes has a powerful impact on mitigating and eradicating discriminatory and corrupt practices.

A number of good practices in all regions represent an inspiration on the potential of parliamentary women in politics to prioritize preventive measures as well as accountability and transparency in governance through ethical leadership. They push for open-government initiatives, such as access to information laws, digital governance reforms, codes of conduct, and strengthen parliamentary ethics committees.

In the same vein, they advocate for Gender-Responsive Anti-Corruption Measures in different fields, including through specific policies for public services, business, and employment to avoid disparities. To this end, they often draw upon building partnerships with different stakeholders, including civil society organizations, journalists, and anti-corruption agencies to expose and combat corruption through awareness campaigns and public participation.

Furthermore, their work as part of parliamentary committees that investigate corruption has demonstrated their engagement to ensure that public funds are used properly and holding government officials accountable.

As a contribution to this endeavor, the Global Organization Against Corruption (GOPAC) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have brought together their expertise and practical knowledge to collaboratively developed the e-learning course on “The Contribution of Parliamentarian Women to the Fight Against Corruption.” Throughout this learning journey you will have the opportunity to better understand how higher female participation in governance correlates with lower corruption levels.
