In 2015, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) launched the Women’s Leadership Programme aiming to promote gender equality and women’s full and effective participation and leadership at all levels of political decison-making.

Working with UN agencies and key strategic partners, the Women’s Leadership Programme is delivering capacity building and awareness raising events to provide opportunities for women to build personal leadership skills and learn from women in leadership positions across a variety of sectors. UNITAR is driven by the fact that training and capacity building are essential to converting ambition and commitments into measurable and impactful change.  The Programme is supporting global efforts towards UN Women’s 50:50 by 2030 goal and HeforShe initiative.

In 2015, the Women’s Leadership Programme successfully delivered 6 events in Geneva, New York, and Bonn, in partnership with UN agencies, reaching over 200 participants, from over 60 countries worldwide.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Critically assess what characterises a strong leader and appraise what is meant by charismatic and visionary leadership;

  •  Strengthen personal confidence and direction as leaders;

  •  Employ tools to build high-priority skills, such as networking, influencing others, negotiation,  collaborative leadership, and public speaking;

  •  Understand how these skills may be applied to strengthen participation and personal performance in multilateral conference and decision-making processes.

The workshop will be highly interactive and participatory, and include a variety of simulation exercises and pedagogical tools to enable an environment for creative and innovative thinking and mindful learning.

The workshop will draw on the latest leadership models and innovative interactive training methods that require open-minded approaches to leadership, encouraging participants to explore their own personal leadership styles and models, and their own characteristics as a leader.
