In an increasingly interconnected, globalized and complex world, where the importance of multilateral dialogue and cooperation is ever growing, the demand for training and capacity development in the field of international affairs and diplomacy is constantly rising. 

This Master’s programme is designed to suit the needs of students and professionals interested in both developing essential knowledge for understanding international affairs, as well as strengthening their capacities in the practice of diplomacy. This Master’s Degree will allow diplomats, government officials, students and other stakeholders to upgrade their studies and knowledge combining the best of university education and UN executive training.

This Master's Programme will enable you to strengthen your performance in multilateral settings, to foster your understanding of international relations and to leverage your career perspectives by connecting with high-level representatives, diplomats, academics, and other experts.

At the end of the Master's Programme, students should be able to:

  • Develop a critical understanding of key issues and concepts in world affairs;
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive, substantive and practical knowledge of international relations and diplomacy;
  • Develop analytical skills and critical thinking;
  • Improve research and drafting skills;
  • Perform in both bilateral and multilateral working environments with increased confidence.

To receive the Master's Degree in Lifelong Learning in International Affairs and Diplomacy issued by the UOC in partnership with UNITAR, students must successfully complete the following courses equivalent to 60 ECTS in one year.

Students will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the very heart of diplomacy or into the city of peace and justice. Optional field trips to Geneva, Switzerland (5 days) and The Hague, Netherlands (5 days) will be organized for those who wish to gain expertise as well as skills in the domain of multilateral diplomacy.

The Master's Degree in Lifelong Learning in International Affairs and Diplomacy is a UOC Certified Master’s Degree, awarded according to the rules and regulations set by the Spanish education system. Giving its specificity, it does not give general access to Doctoral studies (Ph.D. and similar). Validation of credits for access to such programmes can be requested from competent institutions. The Master's Degree in Lifelong Learning in International Affairs and Diplomacy is aimed at diplomats as well as staff of governmental and non-governmental organizations. Additionally, the Master’s Degree and related qualifications are open to graduate students, young researchers and other academics interested in gaining a thorough understanding of diplomacy and international relations and acquiring soft skills to thrive in their careers. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND REGISTRATION PROCESS

In order to be considered for the Master's Degree in Lifelong Learning in International Affairs and Diplomacy and related qualifications, candidates must be fluent in English, possess a valid passport or national identity cards and have completed an undergraduate degree*. 

During the application process please upload the following documents:

- a copy of your CV in English

- a copy of your bachelor degree certificate

- motivation letter in English

After reception of these documents, your application will be carefully considered. In case your application is successful, UNITAR will send you an acceptance email. Once your confirmation is received, UOC will send you another link by which you can complete your official registration with UOC and proceed with the payment. UOC will also ask you to provide the following document:

- Copy of passport

- Work certificate (only for students who wish to validate their work experience). 

Students who provide a confirmation of past work experience or do an internship can request to be exempted from one out of five subjects from the block of regional studies. In all cases, the practical experience must amount to at least 100 hours and be related to international relations in the wider sense. UOC's Academic Board reserves the right to recommend which subject should be exempted taking into account students' professional experience. Students must send their work certificate to the UOC Programme Tutor at least one month prior to the beginning of the regional studies course they want to validate. Otherwise their request will not be accepted and will be automatically enrolled in all subjects on regional studies.

Upon registration, UNITAR will transfer students' data to UOC. UOC has a joint controllership with regard to students' personal data provided during the registration process.

*According to Spanish Royal Decree RD822/2021 setting forth new regulations on admission requirements for Master programmes, it is now required that all students provide an official bachelor certificate or validation of work experience (at least two years related experience) if a bachelor's was not obtained. If accepted into the programme, after enrolling students will receive an additional email from UOC with official instructions on how to submit the correct documents to comply with these new Spanish rules and regulations. During the application process, students can upload a photocopy of their degree. It is only required to provide the official documents during the enrollment process after being accepted. Please find here information related to the academic access requirements to assist you in determining your eligibility prior to applying.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Admission is granted on a rolling basis. However, early application is recommended given the limited number of places on the programme. 

Admission is valid for two intakes, the intake the candidate applies for and the following.

DURATION

Full-time students must complete their studies in one year. Please note that students must complete a Master's Thesis. 

Working professionals are strongly encouraged to apply for the part-time programme.

WITHDRAWAL

Students may request to withdraw from the MA without any penalty or need for justification within the timeframe of fourteen (14) days counting from the date they are officially informed by e-mail of the enrolment in the Master or related qualifications.

Students shall request to withdraw from the MA through UOC's established channels (https://www.uoc.edu/estudiant/portal/guia/en/index.html) and send back the learning resources (if applicable) to the established address. The costs of sending the learning materials shall be paid by the student.

After this period of time, withdrawing from the MA does not exempt the student to keep up with the payment plan agreed with UOC.

TUITION FEES

The tuition fees are 7,410 EUR to be paid in EUR. 

Accepted students will be contacted by UOC so they can proceed with the payment.
