Event Objectives

After successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a deeper understanding of the structure and functioning of the United Nations system and its role in advancing the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
  • Situate International Geneva within the broader architecture of multilateral diplomacy and identify the main UN agencies and international organisations based there.
  • Analyse key challenges and opportunities at the intersection of AI, international relations, and sustainability, and articulate their implications for global governance.
  • Strengthen career development and leadership competencies needed to enter and grow in the international arena, including professional self-presentation and leading effectively in intercultural teams.
  • Cultivate a global mindset and greater awareness of their role as active global citizens, and identify academic and professional pathways in diplomacy, global governance, global citizenship, and sustainable development
Content and Structure

The programme will take place in person in Geneva, Switzerland, over three days between the 25 and 27 November 2026, and will welcome a cohort of Schiller International University students from diverse academic backgrounds. The training combines interactive workshops at UNITAR Headquarters with guided study visits to key International Geneva institutions, including the Palais des Nations and the ICRC HQ, and a walking tour of "International Geneva". The programme will conclude with a Graduation Ceremony.

Throughout the programme, participants will engage in a combination of workshops, guided visits, practitioner exchanges, and group reflection sessions in which the knowledge gained will be applied and assessed, in line with UNITAR's Quality Assurance Framework. All activities will take place in the English language.

Methodology

Participants will be provided with a comprehensive set of training materials, allowing them to follow the activities with ease and to deepen their knowledge with relevant background readings. The training material will include a booklet, handouts, and copies of the PowerPoint slides used by the resource persons.
