Our youths today will lead Singapore into a sustainable future. Building on the momentum created from the successes of the programme from 2019 – 2023, Science Centre Singapore seeks to continue to educate youths to develop a deep understanding on issues of sustainability and be agents of change.

YSC aims to support youths (10 – 17 yrs old) in • developing a deep appreciation of issues concerning sustainability and • encourage them to be advocates for a more sustainable future in their local communities.

Key programme features a. different modes of learning (e.g. self-paced online, in-person workshops, collaborative projects) to generate awareness and understanding of sustainability issues in Singapore b. applying human-centred design methodologies to identify sustainability challenges and opportunities for innovation c. using STEM knowledge and skills to prototype sustainable solutions in the community. Sustainability themes identified in mentored programme 1. Thermal comfort 2. Sustainable transport 3. Waste management 4. Coastal protection Key UNSDGs identified for 2024: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production Goal 10: Reduced Inequality Goal 14: Life below water

Impact areas (since 2019) Deep Appreciation of Issues Concerning Sustainability 1. High participation in self-directed online learning: >20,000 participants per year in the online learning activities through the Young Sustainability Champion badges over the last 6 years. 2. Increased awareness: 45 workshops conducted in 2023 run of the programme; 98% of mentored participants (n=80) reflected that they have been meaningfully engaged on sustainability themes (e.g., learn new knowledge and skills). 3. Greater exposure to issues: 52 partners over the past 6 years that supported the programme in providing learning journeys, offering perspectives (in Human Library discussions or as judges) etc. Advocacy for a Sustainable Future in Local Communities 1. High participation in in-depth projects: 632 participants involved in deep mentoring projects since 2019; 106 project ideas developed since 2019. 2. More extensions of Learning: over 7000 visitors at showcases, over 700k of social media engagements since 2019 3. Greater media interest: consistent media coverage over the past 6 years.
