Event Objectives
• Understand the interconnection between the Olympic Games, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). • Identify key SDGs that are most relevant to sports governance and national sports development strategies in the Saudi context. • Recognize global best practices where Olympic and national sports organizations have advanced sustainability, inclusion, and peace through sports-based initiatives. • Apply practical tools for aligning sports federation activities with SDG targets, including impact measurement, community outreach, and institutional reporting. • Initiate inter-agency dialogue to integrate SDG principles into national sports programming, governance, and youth engagement.
Background
This workshop was organized in collaboration with the Saudi Olympic Academy as part of CIFAL Saudi Arabia’s sports diplomacy and sustainability initiative. It aimed to highlight the strategic potential of the Olympic Games and national sports systems in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as health, education, inclusion, gender, infrastructure, and peacebuilding.
Learning Objectives

Methodology
The workshop used a participatory and practice-oriented approach, combining: • Expert presentations on SDGs and Olympic Agenda 2020+5 • Case studies from international Olympic initiatives • Facilitated discussions on local applications in Saudi sports institutions • Interactive group exercises for designing SDG-aligned initiatives • Visual learning tools to support engagement and understanding
Targeted Audience
Leaders and decision-makers from the Saudi Olympic Committee and national sports federations involved in governance, planning, and aligning sport with Vision 2030 and the SDGs.
