CIFAL Malaga - Reforestation in the framework of the Green Helmets Initiative XII
Green Helmets (Cascos Verdes in Spanish) project was successfully implemented under the partnership consortium established between CIFAL Malaga, Council of Andalusia and sponsored by Amazon Corporation in 2022-2024, with impressive results on educating and raising awareness among more than 5,000 students in Andalucía between the ages of 11 and 18 through our virtual classroom, reforesting 90,000 trees and seeds in 500 hectares of Sierra Bermeja in the province of Málaga and promoting and financing the development of 10 micro-projects of nature-based solutions submitted by educational centres in Andalusia.
Green Helmets carried out a large reforestation project in an area that has biological importance, in the case of Malaga, it was carried out in Sierra Bermeja, an area that lost a large part of its trees, due to a recent forest fire; 8,400 hectares were affected. The third phase included the reforestation of an area of 500 hectares with trees and seeds.
Timing:
10:00 am: Arrival of all volunteers to the meeting point.
10:30 am: Easy level trail with explanation and interpretation of the environment.
11:00 am: Reforestation begins.
12:00 pm: Breakfast stop.
