Event Objectives
To strengthen participants' understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and their practical relevance to contemporary societal challenges.

Background
The Sustainable Development Training Program with Lions Türkiye I, II, III was organized in collaboration with Lions Türkiye to enhance public awareness and understanding of sustainable development through a series of educational seminars. Consisting of three sessions, the programme aimed to introduce participants to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), examine current sustainability challenges, and encourage the development of solution-oriented projects. By engaging participants from diverse age groups, particularly older adults, the programme promoted an inclusive approach to sustainability education and contributed to expanding sustainability awareness beyond traditional academic and professional audiences.
Content and Structure
The programme was delivered as a three-part seminar series, reaching approximately 350 participants. The first session was held at the BAU Faculty of Medicine, while the second and third sessions took place at the BAU South Campus. Throughout the series, participants were introduced to the Sustainable Development Goals, explored major global and local sustainability challenges, and discussed practical approaches for addressing these issues through innovative and community-oriented initiatives. In addition to providing a conceptual understanding of sustainability, the seminars encouraged participants to analyze societal problems and develop project ideas capable of creating measurable social impact. The participation of predominantly older age groups enriched discussions by bringing diverse perspectives and demonstrated that sustainability is a shared societal responsibility across generations.
Methodology
The programme adopted an interactive and participant-centered learning methodology, combining expert-led presentations with discussion-based learning. It incorporated a problem-solving and project-oriented approach, encouraging participants to critically examine sustainability challenges and translate theoretical knowledge into practical project ideas. The seminar series also embraced an inclusive and intergenerational learning approach, facilitating knowledge exchange among participants from different age groups and fostering collaborative dialogue on sustainable development and community engagement.
