Encouraging interdisciplinary exchange among academics, science communicators, and students on lessons from the past and their value for shaping future science culture. Providing an open forum for participants to question, discuss, and reflect on the relationship between historical scientific developments and contemporary communication challenges.

Background

This event was organized within the collaboration between Bahçeşehir University Science Communication Office and CIFAL Istanbul, aiming to explore the role of historical perspectives in strengthening contemporary science communication practices. On September 15, 2025, participants gathered at the Science Café titled “Shaping the Future with Lessons from the Past: The Role of Science History in Science Communication,” engaging in reflections on how past scientific developments can inform present and future approaches to public engagement with science.

Content and Structure

The event featured thematic discussions addressing the role of science history in shaping today’s communication strategies, with a focus on methods for conveying scientific knowledge to the public and drawing meaningful lessons from past scientific transformations. The session concluded with an open Q&A segment, allowing participants to engage directly with speakers and deepen their understanding of the themes explored.

Methodology

The panel was conducted in an interactive discussion format, combining speaker presentations with open dialogue among participants. Emphasis was placed on critical reflection, interdisciplinary exchange, and audience participation. The concluding Q&A session created space for clarifying questions and collective interpretation of the ideas presented.
