Event Objectives

  • Contribute to improved governance and municipal service delivery through healthier work environments.
Background

The Liga Municipal Dominicana (LMD) and the Instituto Dominicano de Prevención y Protección de Riesgos Laborales (IDOPPRIL) launched a national training program focused on strengthening occupational safety and health (OSH) practices within municipal governments.

This initiative is the first concrete action resulting from a collaboration agreement signed between both institutions. The program aims to improve prevention systems, protect municipal employees, and enhance the quality of public service delivery.

CIFAL República Dominicana, under the leadership of Rafael Santos, provides technical accompaniment and support to ensure alignment with international standards and sustainable development principles.

The program is designed to be implemented across all regions of the Dominican Republic, strengthening institutional capacities at the local government level.

Learning Objectives

By the end of each workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand coverage, benefits, and functioning of occupational risk insurance systems;
  • Properly notify and register workplace accidents and occupational illnesses;
  • Apply occupational safety and health protocols in municipal settings;
  • Strengthen internal HR policies related to labor risk prevention;
  • Promote a culture of prevention and safety within local governments.
Content and Structure

The regional workshops include modules on:

  • Coverage, benefits, and operational mechanisms of occupational risk insurance;
  • Procedures for reporting and registering workplace accidents and occupational diseases;
  • Occupational health and safety standards applicable to municipal governments;
  • Risk assessment and preventive strategies in public sector workplaces.

Facilitators include:

  • Dianeris Pichardo, Head of Education and Risk Assessment Department, IDOPPRIL

Workshops are conducted region by region to ensure national coverage and tailored engagement with local authorities.
