The National Adaptation Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP) is implemented by UNDP and UN Environment, financed by the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) and the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF). The NAP-GSP provides a global support mechanism to enable developing countries, including Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to identify, finance, and implement appropriate medium- to long-term adaptation actions at national, sub-national and local levels. The NAP-GSP is a collaborative effort, with more than ten international organizations involved. The programme supports countries in the following areas: institutional support, technical support, and knowledge brokering. The “NAP Toolkit” consists of three NAP training modules: 1) Climate change adaptation Finance; 2) Appraisal of Adaptation Options and Prioritization; and 3) Mainstreaming climate change adaptation in water resources.

The overall objective of the ToT event was to help participants improve their NAP training design and delivery skills and specifically focused on the following learning outcomes:

- Designing and delivering more learner-centred training;

- Delivering effective presentations;

- Facilitating learning activities;

- Evaluating the effectiveness of trainings; and

- Familiarization with the NAP Toolkit modules material and training methodology prepared by UNITAR.

Training methods used were highly interactive with a minimum in lecture style teaching. Led by Bryan Hopkins, an experienced training and capacity development expert, and support from resource person Ana Maria Kleymeyer, the training used the Harvard Case Method to promote more effective learning and retention of ideas. Participants also had the opportunity to go on stage and get feedback on their presentations as well as learning activity facilitation skills.

The training targeted NAP-GSP partners involved in the delivery of the NAP-GSP partners involved in the delivery of the NAP Toolkit modules:

1) Climate Finance;

2) Appraisal of Adaptation Options and Prioritization; and

3) Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into water resources.

About 17 participants from the following partner agencies attended the training: WMO, FAO, GWP, UNITAR, UNDP and UN-Habitat.
