• Explain the basic principles of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

• Identify key environmental challenges related to the “Planet” dimension of the 2030 Agenda.

• Recognize the role of individuals, educational communities and local organizations in protecting ecosystems and biodiversity.

• Apply the knowledge acquired through participatory practical activities.

• Identify opportunities for developing community-based Nature-Based Solutions in their local environment.

Background

Cascos Verdes is an environmental education and citizen participation initiative promoted by CIFAL Malaga, inspired by the United Nations Blue Helmets. The initiative seeks to engage citizens and organizations in protecting local ecosystems and contributing to environmental sustainability through education and tangible action.  Within the implementation of Cascos Verdes in the Axarquía region, the educational component aims to raise environmental awareness among students and teachers and encourage the transition from theoretical learning to practical action. The training introduces participants to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with particular emphasis on the “Planet” dimension, and provides a foundation for the subsequent development of community-based Nature-Based Solutions.

Content and Structure

The training programme has a total duration of 8 hours and combines theoretical learning with practical and participatory activities. It consists of:

 • An introductory theoretical component on the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

• Five practical and participatory workshops focused particularly on the “Planet” dimension of the 2030 Agenda.

• A group assessment to consolidate and evaluate the knowledge acquired during the training.

Completion of the training provides the educational foundation for participating schools to subsequently develop and submit community-based Nature-Based Solutions within the Cascos Verdes project.

Methodology

The training follows an active, participatory and practice-oriented methodology. Teachers from the selected schools will register on the Cascos Verdes portal and receive access to credentials for their classes. The training will be undertaken collectively in the classroom, combining theoretical content with five practical workshops designed to encourage participation, reflection and the application of sustainability concepts.  Participants will complete a group assessment after completing the training modules. Students and teachers who successfully complete the programme will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion issued by CIFAL Malaga and UNITAR. Completion of the training and assessment is also a prerequisite for participating in schools wishing to submit a microproject during the subsequent phase of the Cascos Verdes initiative.

Targeted Audience

Students aged 11 to 18 and teachers from selected educational institutions in the Axarquía region, Málaga, Spain.
