Background

The Dominican Republic faces a critical road safety crisis, with an average of eight daily fatalities due to traffic accidents. Road traffic mortality remains a major public health and governance challenge.

In alignment with the national objective set by President Luis Abinader to reduce traffic-related deaths by 50% by 2030, the Liga Municipal Dominicana (LMD), in partnership with INTRANT and other institutional actors, organized the Municipal Road Safety Congress to strengthen local government leadership in preventing traffic fatalities.

The Congress, held during Dominican Municipalism Week, positions municipalities at the center of road safety governance, recognizing that sustainable reductions in mortality require strong territorial leadership and local implementation strategies.

CIFAL República Dominicana provided international training accompaniment to ensure alignment with sustainable development and governance best practices.
