Event Objectives

The core event objectives of this program include:

Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding and Friendship: Provide a face-to-face exchange platform for outstanding young scholars from China and Australia to deepen mutual understanding, build transnational friendships, and embody the scholarship program’s philosophy of “establishing lifelong friendships.”

Deepening Awareness of Global Issues: Through discussions on specific topics (such as climate and health), guide participants to focus on and reflect upon global challenges and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby broadening their international perspective.

Cultivating Leadership and Collaboration Skills: In group discussions and public presentations, encourage participants to demonstrate leadership abilities, team spirit, and public expression skills, which are essential for nurturing future leaders.

Strengthening and Expanding Cooperation Networks: Enhance institutional partnerships among East China University of Political Science and Law, CIFAL Shanghai, CIFAL Newcastle, and the University of Newcastle, laying a foundation for broader academic and project collaborations in the future.

Enhancing Project Impact and Visibility: As an important component of the “Ma & Morley Scholarship Program,” this event aims to showcase the program’s achievements and value, increasing its influence in relevant academic circles and international exchange fields.

Background

This scholarship program aims to commemorate the deep friendship that transcended national boundaries between Chinese entrepreneur Jack Ma and distinguished individual Ken Morley from the University of Newcastle. It is not just a financial aid program but a comprehensive initiative designed to shape a new generation of Australian leaders with a global perspective and a sense of social responsibility.

Content and Structure

Video Presentation and Ice-Breaking: Thematic videos will be screened, followed by group formation.

Group Discussion: Participants will engage in in-depth discussions centered around a specific theme.

Presentation of Results: Groups will deliver an 8-minute presentation.

Methodology

Cross-Cultural Dialogue and Peer Learning: The core will involve mixing students from China and Australia (Ma & Morley Scholarship scholars and East China University of Political Science and Law students) into groups, completing the entire process from discussion to presentation together. This will create a natural environment for cross-cultural exchange.

Multimedia and Case Inspiration: The event will begin by screening thematic documentaries on climate and health, providing students with intuitive, emotional discussion material and starting points for thinking, thereby stimulating resonance and insights.

Structured Group Collaboration: The agenda will set a clear “formation-discussion-presentation” process, providing groups with a time framework and task orientation, ensuring interaction efficiency and output.

Guidance and Role Modeling: The event will be coordinated by experienced staff from the international organization training center (CIFAL), and alumni with a global perspective and rich practical experience will be invited to host and guide, providing students with learning role models and methodological guidance.

Targeted Audience

The "Ma & Morley Scholarship" scholars from the University of Newcastle and students from East China University of Political Science and Law.
