The short course on International Criminal Law (ICL) will examine select issues and current problems in international criminal law. This course will address the history and development of the international criminal justice, with a special emphasis on the Ad Hoc International Tribunals and the International Criminal Court (ICC). The course will give an overview of the elements of the substantive international crimes: War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity, Genocide, and Aggression. The course will pay special attention to the argument regarding some current issues under discussion at the United Nations related to the criminal justice, such as the Security Council’s relationship to the International Criminal Court, the application of the principle of universal jurisdiction, and the concept of responsibility to protect.

Key Objectives:

Develop a clear understanding of the institutional and doctrinal foundations of international criminal justice

Perform an analysis of ongoing situations from the perspective of international criminal justice

- This course is the first in a series of two courses. 

-The first course will be on March 30th, 2017.

 - The $1000 fee for this events is for both courses.

- A single session is $500

- This course is from 2:00pm- 5:00pm at the UN Headquarters

-After successful participation in both courses, participants will receive a certificate signed by both Rutgers University and UNITAR.
