Cities and communities increasingly face complex sustainability challenges requiring innovative, collaborative, and technology-driven solutions. Young people play a critical role in shaping sustainable futures and driving innovation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Creating spaces where youth, institutions, and the private sector can collaborate contributes to strengthening local capacities and accelerating sustainable development.
In this context, CIFAL Málaga co-organized the Málaga Sustainability Hackathon in partnership with Oracle and local institutional partners. The initiative provided a collaborative platform for young participants, innovators, students, and professionals to develop practical and technology-based solutions addressing sustainability and urban development challenges.
To teach children about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in an interactive way with a workshop.
The hackathon included:
- Opening and orientation sessions on sustainability challenges and SDGs
- Team-based innovation workshops
- Mentoring sessions with experts and professionals
- Collaborative problem-solving activities
- Development and presentation of sustainability-focused project proposals
- Networking and stakeholder engagement opportunities
The initiative focused on practical innovation related to sustainability, smart cities, technology, civic participation, and social impact.
