Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping how the next generation understands and responds to climate change. According to UNESCO, there are nearly 100 million teachers worldwide: individuals who directly influence hundreds of millions of young people who will become tomorrow’s leaders and decision-makers. Empowering teachers with the right knowledge, skills, and tools is therefore essential to fostering sustainability and inspiring climate action from the classroom to the broader community.

This three-day training programme, organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) through the UN CC:Learn Partnership, is designed to empower educators to integrate climate change education into their teaching practice and inspire climate action within their schools and communities.

Held in Geneva, Switzerland, the programme will bring together up to 35 teachers for an immersive learning experience led by UN experts and other leading specialists.

Through a dynamic mix of expert insights, practical exercises, and collaborative work, participants will explore the science behind climate change and its real-world impacts, globally, regionally, and within school communities, while examining effective and practical solutions. They will learn how to weave these themes across different subjects, design engaging and impactful lesson plans, and inspire climate action among their students.

Going beyond the classroom, the programme will also empower teachers to become climate leaders in their school communities, equipped with the tools and confidence to mobilize colleagues, students, and the wider community towards a better and low-emissions future.
