As the COVID 19 pandemic continues, medical waste is expected to surge in communities. Garbage contaminated with infectious materials has become a concern for hospitals as the COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the country with 67, 456 cases as of 19 July  2020 in Philippines.

Personal protective equipment (PPE), most of it made of plastic, constitutes the bulk of additional volume of medical waste that built up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Green hospitals, those who implement sustainable practices in waste management, energy use, procurement, among others, are concerned that prior efforts to minimize single use plastic waste may be set aside due to overwhelming use of single use PPEs in hospitals due to COVID-19

By the end of this event, participants will be able to:

  • Identify challenges and solutions in managing medical waste during the pandemic
  • Promote sustainable management of healthcare wastes for the sustenance of life on land and below water

This event is comprised of presentations with experts, followed by a Q&A session.

The event is addressed to professionals of the health system, including medical practicioners, hospital administrators, medical waste generators, local government and private hospitals, health protective equipment and medical clothing manufacturers.
