背景信息

At the beginning of 2022, H.E. Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General, brought the international community’s attention with 5 alarms, as follows: Challenges coming from COVID19, the global financial system, climate change, lawlessness of cybersecurity, as well as peace and security.

Among their several root causes, the lack of literacy on contemporary issues play an important role. In this regard, strengthening capacities can be positive to mitigate causes and effects through a better understanding of opportunities rather than turning them into problems. For example, the growing use of cryptocurrency in internal and external markets, the development of new technologies, as well as changes in participation of people who have been historically discriminated.

In the same vein, corruption should be considered as a crosscutting element that is even more damaging in times of crisis, such as the ongoing pandemic that has been worldwide causing human and material losses. This scenario has made even more evident economic inefficiencies and distortions, in cases where resources have been allocated or diverted for reasons of personal profit rather than the welfare of society. Consequently, there is a growing lack of public trust that needs to be restored towards building back better societies for all.

To this end, a multidisciplinary approach on the roles of different stakeholders and their partnerships face to these challenges is enriching towards harmonizing further efforts as well as encompassing better the links from different fields. As a contribution to promote an integral analysis, the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre (ROLACC) and the United Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have brought together their expertise to collaboratively organize this Global Conference focused on the 5 alarms raised by the Secretary General and its link with contemporary literacy on anticorruption, moved by their positive experience in developing learning tools focused on Anticorruption and its links with Human Rights, Sustainable Development and technologies that have trained hundreds of persons from all regions

活动目标

This inclusive dialogue is envisaged to also consider gender, generational and regional balance as elements needed to take stock on the current situation and possibilities to moving forward from theory to practice. Likewise, it is foreseen as a space to share good practices and challenges for combating corruption as key elements to realize about possibilities and become more familiar with a different spectrum of cases and options.

Mainstreaming knowledge about this problem pursues the transformation of discriminatory social institutions, laws, cultural norms, and community practices. It has a powerful impact on raising awareness, empowering people, and fostering positive mindsets for transforming lives and moving forward from theory to practice.
