背景信息

This mini e-course aims to increase the involvement of climate experts from developing countries in the IPCC reports.  The course enables first-time reviewers and early career climate experts to understand how the IPCC works and how to contribute to its draft reports by providing review comments on chapters.  It is particularly important that reviewers from developing countries with much regional and local knowledge bring their expertise into the IPCC assessments, in order to keep a balance of scientific input from all regions of the world.

The full course has been targeted at the review period of the First Order Draft of the Working Group II report on Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, 18-October -13 December 2019, and consisted of two Webinars and a personal coaching part. Although this review period has ended, the webinars still provide a good background for reviewing future draft IPCC reports. More information on the planning of the IPCC reports can be found on its calendar.

Who should view these webinars:

The engaged public and practitioners with an interest in understanding the IPCC and their reports.
First-time reviewers and early career climate experts interested in contributing to the quality and relevance of IPCC reports.
Climate experts from developing countries wanting to contribute their regional and local knowledge expertise into the IPCC assessments.

The course has been developed by the Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) through partnership between the South-South-North and Climate Contact Consultancy. More information about the course can be found on the website of FCFA.  The webinars are made available on UN CC:e-Learn through the new UN CC:Learn affiliation programme, which highlights high-quality e-learning products on climate change developed by recognized institutions outside the framework of the UN CC:Learn programme / without support from the UN CC:Learn Secretariat, in accordance with specific affiliation criteria. The objective of the UN CC:Learn affiliation programme is to enhance global climate literacy through dissemination of high-level learning products that complement UN CC:Learn resources.

The webinars are divided into short videos of 5-10 minutes, each focusing on a different topic. Users have the possibility to freely watch any video, depending on their interests, and to download the full presentation in PDF. This course does not have a learning assessment therefore no certificate of completion will be issued.
