背景信息

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Indigenous Peoples and Development Branch /DISD/DESA, Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights (Indigenous Peoples Rights Program), the University of Kansas, and the Group of Friends of Indigenous Peoples (GoFIP), are pleased to announce the 1st Orientation Workshop on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The programme will be held in New York on 30 April and 8 May 2019 and will involve presentations by human rights experts.

活动目标

The workshop aims at enhancing governmental officials and representatives of indigenous peoples understanding of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the United Nations protection and promotion system on indigenous peoples’ rights. As a result, diplomats and other participants will be able to integrate more fully and effectively the rights of indigenous peoples in their work.

内容和框架

The training programme is structured in four modules, as described below. These modules are structured around the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, ILO Convention 169 and other relevant international instruments.

Module 1: The International Indigenous Peoples’ Movement and Human Rights.

Module 2: International norms and standards: the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, ILO Convention 169 and Other Relevant Instruments.

Module 3: United Nations Mechanisms on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Module 4: Major Issues related to indigenous peoples and development.

方法

Workshop with interactive approach to integrate practical dynamics of indigenous peoples.

This workshop is designed to allow the participation of all members of Permanent Missions to the United Nations, especially the delegates who are experts in the field of human rights and the rights of indigenous peoples, interested representatives of non-governmental organizations, indigenous peoples’ representatives, among others.

Participants will receive a certificate from UNITAR.
