The Distinguished Global Ambassadors (DGA) Program is a selective international leadership program administered under the auspices of UNITAR and offered through Kennesaw State University’s Division of Global Affairs and CIFAL Atlanta. The DGA Program offers ten undergraduate students – one from each of KSU’s ten degree-granting colleges – the opportunity to train at the United Nations Palace and UNITAR headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and develop both disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable development that are then shared and applied to benefit the KSU campus through designated projects and events. Distinguished Global Ambassador candidates participate in monthly seminars and quarterly retreats on the KSU campus and travel to the United Nations and UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland during Spring Break for a week of training sessions. Students use their training to further engage and serve their campus community and are given additional opportunities for leadership roles in campus internationalization through the Division of Global Affairs. The program is jointly supported by the United Nations Institute for Training & Research, CIFAL Atlanta and KSU’s Division of Global Affairs.

- Describe the origins and purpose of the Sustainable Development Goals
- Identify key challenges in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals
- Identify global leadership principles
- Demonstrate both international and intercultural competences, allowing participants to successfully navigate both their program experiences and internationalization project development
- Recognize the importance of cultivating a [inter]disciplinarily approach to sustainable development
- Contribute directly to the global engagement and internationalization mission of Kennesaw State University through individual projects within the disciplines of the participants (distributed across all ten of KSU’s degree-granting Colleges)
- Recognize how Kennesaw State University students can harness their influencing power to help shape a new, sustainable society

The core DGA Program is a 12-month series of monthly seminars, quarterly retreats and a week-long international training culminating in a public showcase and the implementation of a self-designed internationalization project predicated upon the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and with the intention to engage and benefit the KSU community.
The program begins in the Spring semester with a series of monthly seminars and retreats. During the Spring Break period, students travel to the United Nations Palace and UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland for a week of intensive training where they will present preliminary project proposals to senior diplomats and receive individual feedback on how to improve their projects to benefit KSU and our local-to-global communities. Over the summer, individual projects are refined and developed into formal proposals with the help of designated mentors. During the Fall semester, students continue their monthly seminars and retreats and begin to implement their projects following a public showcase event.
At the end of the Fall Semester, students who successfully complete all program requirements receive program certificates from the UNITAR, CIFAL Atlanta and the KSU Division of Global Affairs and become Distinguished Global Ambassadors to the campus with additional opportunities for leadership roles in campus internationalization through the Division of Global Affairs and CIFAL Atlanta.
