背景信息

In November 2012, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution A/67/L.25 (2012), which encourages the Secretary General, UNESCO, UNDP, and other relevant stakeholders "to strengthen their efforts to promote the values of peace, human rights, democracy, respect for religious and cultural diversity and democracy through education".  This resolution also encourages actors "to provide appropriate expertise and resources for the development of relevant education programmes and materials for democracy".  Taking into consideration this resolution, the seminar will focus on the history of the resolution and the steps for implementation of these recommendations at all levels of society.

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the recommendations put forth in resolution A/67/L.25;
  • Learn what UN and member states are doing or planning to do to support and mainstream the recommendations from the resolution;
  • Discern the challenges to actualizing such recommendations and acquire strategies to overcome these challenges.
