背景信息

The role of women in post-conflict societies is immense. Often only viewed as victims, women also play a key role in preventing violent conflict, resolving it and rebuilding societies. Women - as agents of change, active participants, supporting participants, victims, spoils of war and newly responsible care providers - play active leadership roles and have an impact on post-conflict reconstruction and national development at all levels.

活动目标

The goal of this course is to analyze the contributions and challenges women face at all levels in post-conflict reconstruction and national development. The course explores the complex relationship between gender and leadership in post-conflict environments. It focuses on the role of women in conflict situations, peace processes and post-conflict environments, and highlights the impact of their contribution to global peace and development.

学习目标

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Construct a definition of gender;
  • Describe the importance of gender in the realm of leadership and post-conflict;
  • Analyze the contribution of women to post-conflict efforts;
  • Elaborate the role of women in politics and their impact on development.

内容和框架

The course is composed of four modules, defined as follows:
  • Module 1: Framing the context of gender and leadership in post-conflict societies
  • Module 2: The role of women in post-conflict
  • Module 3: Women in leadership
  • Module 4: Challenges and strategies for gender mainstreaming

 

方法

The course is based on the synergy of theory and practice. The conceptual foundations of leadership are laid out through lessons. Taking advantage of the opportunities of technology-enhanced learning, the learning materials are presented through various media, such as text, images and video material, which contribute to better retention and enhance the learning process.
 
The concepts learned will be applied in scenario-based activities, which allow participants to solve challenges in realistic situations. Interaction is a core component of this course, as participants are required to share experiences, discuss point of views through multiple forum discussions. Self-assessment tools are also available for participants. Participants will be assessed based on their performance in the scenario-based activities.
 
Taking advantage of the opportunities of technology-enhanced learning, the learning materials are presented through various media, such as text, images and video material, which contribute to better retention and enhance the learning process.
 
Facilitators guide participants through this process, delivering and conveying information, clarifying doubts and supporting participants through different activities.

目标受众

The course is designed for national and regional military and police personnel of every rank and function serving or interested in serving in peace operations. The course also addresses a broad audience of civilians, from international and regional organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations, universities and research centers working or interested in working with peace operations.
 
Participants are not expected to have prior experience in or knowledge of gender, leadership and peacebuilding. However, as this is an advanced course, participants must have a sound understanding of the structure and functioning of a peace operation.
