背景信息

FAUNOS is an EU-funded project aimed at strengthening the prevention, detection, and investigation of organised environmental crime, with a particular focus on waste and pollution crimes. The project builds on the results of previous EU research and innovation initiatives and seeks to transfer validated technological solutions into an operational law enforcement context.

Within this framework, FAUNOS includes a structured training programme designed to ensure the effective operational uptake of the FAUNOS digital platform by end users. The training activities are implemented under Work Package 3 and are aligned with the progressive development and validation of the platform through an iterative approach.

The training programme is based on a hands-on, competency-oriented methodology and is delivered through three face-to-face training sessions aligned with the different stages of platform maturity. These activities aim to support operational use, facilitate internal knowledge transfer, and contribute to the sustainable adoption of the FAUNOS solution by participating law enforcement authorities.

活动目标

•O1. The implementation of innovative solutions to combat organised environmental crime, enabling systematic monitoring and analysis of criminal activities, as well as the collection and sharing of digital court-proof evidence.

•O2. The adaptation, deployment, and validation of the FAUNOS platform in real scenarios, which builds on top of R&D successful results, mainly the Horizon Europe PERIVALLON and EMERITUS projects. This will involve a training programme for Police Authorities & other security practitioners focused on environmental crime investigation.

•O3. The scale-up of the FAUNOS technologies based on the results of the validation and assessment of the LEA, ensuring that further operational deployment, use, and scale-up will be feasible with the support of additional funding mechanisms.

•O4. The successful uptake of the FAUNOS product, which will have therefore (i) a business plan for the consortium aimed at the commercialization of the product and (ii) the identification of the right mechanisms for the Guardia Civil to procure the validated solution.

•O5. To ensure that the activities and innovative technologies will be compliant with relevant EU, national, and local regulations on law enforcement, as well as that they incorporate assessment of social acceptance and adherence to fundamental rights.

• O6. To promote the uptake of FAUNOS technologies at the translational level, build a Community of Practitioners that will contribute actively to some of the activities.

学习目标

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the objectives and scope of the FAUNOS project, including its role in supporting the prevention, detection, and investigation of organised environmental crime, with a focus on waste and pollution crimes.
  • Identify the main components and operational logic of the FAUNOS platform, including its integration of satellite data, UAV data, GIS services, and historical criminal records
  • Understand the three-layer architecture of FAUNOS (Source Layer, Geospatial Intelligence Layer, and Decision-Support Layer) and their role in environmental crime monitoring and investigation.
  • Use the FAUNOS platform for basic operational tasks, including platform navigation, visualisation of geospatial data, and interaction with core functionalities.
  • Apply FAUNOS functionalities in practical, hands-on exercises, based on anonymised or simulated environmental crime scenarios, in line with the project’s training methodology.
  • Interpret geospatial intelligence outputs and risk indicators to support situational awareness and investigative prioritisation in environmental crime cases.
  • Understand the relevance of court-proof digital evidence, including traceability, data integrity, and admissibility considerations embedded in the FAUNOS platform.
  • Provide structured operational feedback to support the iterative validation, improvement, and uptake of the FAUNOS platform and training programme.

内容和框架

The training programme is structured as a progressive, hands-on capacity-building process and consists of three face-to-face training sessions, aligned with the iterative development of the FAUNOS platform.

The programme includes:

  • Three hands-on training sessions, delivered at different stages of the project, corresponding to the progressive release of the FAUNOS platform versions.

Each training session combines:

  • Short theoretical inputs strictly focused on operational understanding.
  • Hands-on practical exercises using the FAUNOS platform.
  • Scenario-based simulations based on anonymised or simulated environmental crime cases.

The training sessions are designed to:

  • Introduce basic platform functionalities during the first session.
  • Consolidate and expand operational use during the second session.
  • Support advanced and sustained use of the platform during the third session.

Learning outcomes and training quality are assessed at each session through structured evaluation and participant feedback mechanisms.

方法

The training programme follows a competency-based and practice-oriented methodology, implemented in accordance with the ADDIE instructional design model.

The methodology integrates:

  • Short theoretical briefings to support operational understanding.
  • Extensive hands-on practical exercises using the FAUNOS platform.
  • Scenario-based simulations based on anonymised or simulated environmental crime cases.
  • Continuous feedback and evaluation to support iterative improvement.
  • A “Train-the-Trainers” model, whereby CIFAL Málaga conducts intensive training for selected Guardia Civil instructors, who subsequently replicate the training for their peers during the three planned training iterations, supporting internal knowledge transfer and sustainable capacity building.

目标受众

The training programme is aimed at end users and practitioners from the Guardia Civil involved in the prevention, detection, and investigation of environmental crime

更多信息

The session includes a dedicated evaluation component to assess learning outcomes and the quality of the training, as well as to collect structured user feedback for the continuous improvement of the FAUNOS platform. Each training session includes:

  • Assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Collection of participant feedback on training quality and relevance.
  • Review of results to support continuous improvement of both the training programme and the FAUNOS platform.
