背景信息

At Chaminade, we believe those words—written by celebrated Marianist educator Father Domingo Lazaro more than a century ago—stand true today. In fact, Chaminade’s Experiential Honors Program, debuting in 2020, was built on the theory that hands-on learning, with real-world experiences that challenge and inspire, are the lessons we truly grow from.  The Chaminade University Experiential Honors Program is a four year program that encourages students to make positive change in the world through experiential learning as an ambassador of the United Nations CIFAL Center Honolulu, housed at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Alignment with the UN CIFAL center provides students in our Honors Program with an enhanced learning environment, encouraging them to put learning into action through myriad hands on opportunities. Throughout the four years in the Honors Program, students will engage in educational and leadership activities, cultural events, and creative opportunities that enhance their academic portfolio and as well as personal growth while making positive contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (U.N. SDGs).

“Problem-solving Challenge” (10 minutes) Activity Setup:  Divide students into small groups (3-4 per group). Present each group with a "mystery challenge" related to SDGs (prompts on 3rd page) Instructions:  Each group has 5 minutes to brainstorm a solution. After 3 minutes, introduce a "curveball" (e.g., "Your budget is cut by half" or "The location is suddenly closed") to see how they adapt. Each group will present their solution in 10 minutes. Debrief: Discuss how the activity highlights the importance of flexibility, problem-solving, and teamwork—core skills to develop for the honors program. Incorporating Life Skills Workshops (7 minutes) Job Readiness and Soft Skills Development: Introduce the idea that throughout the year, the program will host life skills workshops, some led by 4th year students, to prepare them for future careers. These workshops will cover topics like resume building, interview techniques, networking, and career exploration. Soft Skills: Critical skills like communication, teamwork, time management, adaptability, and leadership.
