Background

The proposed training workshop will help diplomats broaden their knowledge in multilateral diplomacy, covering a wide range of topics, such as the United Nations System; Rules of Multilateral Diplomacy, as well as Processes of, and interaction in, Multilateral Diplomacy. The workshop will furthermore increase participant’s negotiation skills in multilateral diplomacy with a specific focus on overcoming deadlock and facilitating consensus, to enable them to better negotiate their national position.

 

The exact content of the workshop will be further discussed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan and UNITAR, based on the needs and expectations of participants.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

Be familiar with the United Nations System;
Understand the structures and processes of Multilateral Diplomacy;
Apply the rules of Multilateral Diplomacy and be familiar with the decision-making procedures;
Apply effectively public speaking skills in Multilateral Diplomacy, including national, group statements, and other forms of interventions;
Develop writing skills for Multilateral Diplomacy.

Introduction to The United Nations System II;Introduction to Structures and Processes of Multilateral Diplomacy;

Introduction to the Rules of Multilateral Diplomacy:

Focus on Decision Making Procedures;
Introduction to Public Speaking in Multilateral Diplomacy: National, Group Statements, and Other Forms of Interventions;

Methodology

UNITAR training workshops are designed to be highly interactive and participatory and will include – whenever possible – a variety of simulation exercises, case studies and pedagogical tools to enable participants to acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding of substantive topics, as well as a practical appreciation of negotiation processes and dynamics. Illustrations and case studies will be shared with participants so that they can strengthen their understanding of the topics.
