Background

The Skills Camp: Nurturing Grassroots Change through Partnerships (2018) or the UP-NGCP Project is a joint initiative between the University of the Philippines through the Centre International de Formation des Autorites et Leaders (UP-CIFAL Philippines), and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

The project aims to improve the lives of socio-economically in need communities that are host to NGCP facilities through sustainable livelihood. For 2018, the project will be implemented in seven (7) partner sites all over the Philippines, namely:

•            Brgy. Quinale (Brgy. 4), Paete, Laguna;
•            Brgy. Bankas Heights, Toril, Davao City;
•            Brgy. Hilusig, Mahaplag, Leyte;
•            Brgy. San Gonzalo, Labrador, Pangasinan;
•            Brgy. Nagtupacan, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur;
•            Brgy. Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan; and
•            Brgy. Sampaloc 3, Dasmariñas, Cavite

Event Objectives

  • To introduce the Integrative and Technical Skills Training and their primary objectives;
  • To motivate the community into being active throughout the Skills Camp; and
  • To give information regarding government agencies giving assistance to  associations/cooperatives

Content and Structure

  • Distribution of enrollment form
  • Introduction to the Integrative and Technical Skills Training
  • Inputs from different partners (government agencies)
  • Words of encouragement from UP Enabling team representative
  • Words of encouragement from the SUC President/representative

Methodology

The enrollment forms were distributed during the registration. By filling this up, the participants from the community are officially enrolled as the trainees for the Skills Camp.

They were given a rundown on how the trainings will go and the significance of the Integrative as well as the Technical Skills Training they have chosen.

Partners from different agencies were also invited to encourage them and provide them information on how their respective agencies can help assist the community in achieving sustainable-livelihood.

Targeted Audience

Participants are individuals who are below the poverty threshold by Philippine national standards.
