Background

Over the past few years, the number of civil wars has increased and attacks perpetrated by governments and armed groups against civilians have risen. Sexual violence remains a pervasive tactic of modern war. Women and girls are subject to mass abduction, as well as forced conversion, marriage and sexual slavery. Men and boys are more often forcibly recruited to fight and face extrajudicial execution. More than 50 million people are in situations of internal displacement or in refugee camps, resulting in a significant burden for host countries, as well as the international community.

Event Objectives

The objective of the course is to increase participants’ capacity to identify and manage their reactions to stressors while working in conflict and post-conflict settings. Participants will discuss symptoms and behaviours associated with chronic stress, and burnout. The final weeks will focus on developing and implementing strategies to enhance self-care and increase resilience.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify situations in which the risk of chronic stress and/or burnout are particularly high;
