Background

 Launched in 2011, the Tokyo Diplomatic Training Series has thus far incorprated three successful training sessions held at United nations University in Tokyo. Diplomats accredited in Tokyo are welcome to apply for these focused training opportunities.

Event Objectives

 The Rio+20 and the Green Economy course seeks to examine the developments and proceedings of the recent Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between 20 and 22 June 2012. Following on from this, it seeks to provide participants with an introduction to the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.

Learning Objectives

  •   Examine the proceedings and achievements of Rio+20;

  • Define the concept of a green economy and explain its value;

  • Describe social, environmental and economic benefits of advancing a green economy;

  •  

    Identify enabling conditions for greening national economies;

  • Identify principal challenges and opportunities for greening key economic sectors;

  • Describe national planning processes in support of a green transformation.

 Interactive lectures and practical exercises.
