Background
World Heritage Sites possess values. These are the positive, yet intangible characteristics attributed to them by people and society. These values and can take multiple forms, including, but not limited to:
- Aesthetic
- Educational
- Commemorative
- Environmental
- Religious
- Scientific
- Social
Crucially, these values change over time. How then do site managers, communities and stakeholders monitor, evaluate and maintain these values? What does this mean for the sites themselves?
Join us, as we hear from representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) regarding this fascinating topic.

In order to benefit the local and international community, as well as to enhance exchange between UNITAR experts and the people of Hiroshima, the UNITAR Hiroshima Office invites leading academics, diplomats and politicians to give informal talks on a monthly basis. To date, these interactive sessions have been attended by over 3,000 people.
