Background

The documentation of the United Nations system is complex but never static. Over the years, it has followed the evoluation of the Organization and adjusted to the new technologies. The work of the new delegates in permanent missions to the United Nations in New York will be greatly facilitated if they learn how to identify and retrieve electronically the documents of the various organs of the United Nations.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the workshop, organized jointly with the Dag Hammarskjöld Library and with the cooperation of the Office of Legal Affairs, participants will have:
  • Deepened and updated their knowledge of the interrelationship between the structure of the United Nations and its documentation;
  • Developed and enhanced their skills in the retrieval of information and effective use of the various reference instruments and modern facilities available at the United Nations.

Methodology

The workshop is conducted by a team of experts from the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, Ms. Mereani Vakasisikakala and Ms. Joëlle Sciboz. Experts from the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs make presentations concerning the Treaty Section and the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea.

Targeted Audience

The workshop is designed for members of permanent missions to the United Nations in New York who require in-depth knowledge of United Nations documentation and the services offered by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the Office of Legal Affairs.  Registration is limited to 35 persons.
