CIFAL Philippines - Sustainable Development Goals for Youth (SDGs4Youth) Session III

Background
The University of the Philippines-Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders Philippines (UP-CIFAL Philippines) is one of the 33 global CIFAL centers which is affiliated with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) that promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through capacity building and research. In line with the concepts of university social responsibility and global citizenship encapsulated in the UP-HIRAYA Program, UP-CIFAL Philippines aims to educate the program participants about the 2030 United Nations Agenda on Sustainable Development with the following objectives: To enlighten the participants about the history, principles, and other salient features of the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the 2030 UN Agenda; To inspire the participants on how they can implement the SDGs through the sharing of information and best practices, particularly from the University of the Philippines’ efforts and experience; and To motivate the participants to apply what they have learned through the conceptualization and presentation of a mini-capstone project proposal.
Event Objectives
At the end of this capacity-building course, the participants should be able to: Articulate the development and principles of the SDGs subsequent to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations in the context of education; Explore the relevance of the 17 SDGs in the higher education institutions’ teaching, research, and community service; and Assess and identify how existing curricula, teaching methods, research, and community extension may be aligned with the SDGs for outcome-based learning.
Learning Objectives

Content and Structure
The Sustainable Development Goals for Youth (SDGs4Youth) program integrates both lecture and interactive workshops. The orientation shall compose of three (3) sections: overview of the SDGs, youth in the UN, and case studies on efficient youth participation.
Methodology
This SDGs4Youth iteration was conducted in-person for student delegates from SEA participating in the UP OIL Hiraya program.
Targeted Audience
25 students from the University of the Philippines System as UP HIRAYA Volunteers and Buddies and 50 international students from SEA Universities
