At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of transitional justice;
  • Locate transitional justice within the broader context of post- conflict peacebuilding;
  • Relate key transitional justice elements and mechanisms to address specific post-conflict issues;
  • Explain the implications of international judicial bodies’ pursuit of justice for transitional justice act of pursuing justice;
  • Explain the importance of taking Quiz a holistic approach to transitional justice;
  • Describe the role of national actors in the planning and implementation of transitional justice approaches;
  • Describe key elements of the implementation of a holistic transitional justice approach;
  • Sort the main transitional justice mechanisms according to their respective context of application;
  • Summarize the challenges associated with the implementation of the different transitional justice mechanisms;
  • Relate DDR and SSR to transitional justice processes;
  • Explain potential tensions and synergies between transitional justice and SSR and DDR.
