At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Outline the key elements that distinguish human security from other security
    conceptualizations;
  • List the specificities of the UN definition of human security;
  • Derive human security Quiz operational principles from the UN definition of human security;
  • Explain the added value of human security in post- conflict peacebuilding;
  • Describe needs, vulnerabilities and capacities of a targeted population in a post-conflict environment;
  • Outline strategies to address needs and vulnerabilities of a targeted population, building on its capacities;
  • Describe the impact of strategies in one area for other areas of importance to human security;
  • Outline strategies to achieve the dual objective of protection and empowerment;
  • Explain the steps of participatory implementation of a protection and empowerment strategy;
  • See a post-conflict intervention through a human security lens;
  • Summarize lessons learnt and best practices in mainstreaming human security in post-conflict interventions.

UNITAR recommends the following as a minimum in hardware and software to take our e-Learning courses. Please consult your Network Administrator or Systems person to ensure that you have the following:
