Arrière plan

Reading and understanding the budget plans of the United Nations Organization Programmes and Funds, as well as of its Specialized Agencies can seem a daunting task. However, for many UN delegates, this is part of their daily work. In order to ensure that they can find quickly and efficiently what they need, MDP offers a concise introduction to this important issue. This short introduction course will also provide participants with the background information in order to understand the broader context of their tasks.

Objectifs d'apprentissage

- Be familiar with the UN budgetary process and the most relevant actors involved in it.

- Be able to quickly and efficiently retrieve information from budget-related documents.

-Be able to see the broader context of my budget-related work.

Contenu et structure

The first day will cover an overview of the actors and the process of UN Budgeting, with specific insights into results based management (RBM) and how it is now employed by, for example, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The second day will include a simulation exercise replicating the budgeting process, to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills, and to provide opportunities to practice and apply knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Audience visée

This course will aim to develop the capacities of delegates of UN Member States’ Permanent Missions based in Geneva and in capital. Participants are expected to be in a position that entails working on budget issues for at least two years after the training.
