Contexte

The rise of hate speech and hate-related offences poses a significant challenge to democratic values, social cohesion, and human rights. Media professionals and communicators play a key role in shaping public narratives and influencing public opinion. This training programme responds to the need to strengthen ethical, legal, and professional capacities to prevent the reproduction of discriminatory narratives and to promote responsible, inclusive, and rights-based communication practices.

Objectifs du cours

The overall objective of the event is to enhance participants’ understanding of hate speech and hate crimes from a legal, ethical, and communicative perspective, and to strengthen their capacity to apply responsible journalistic practices that contribute to tolerance, inclusion, and social cohesion.

Objectifs d'apprentissage

Upon completion of the training, participants are expected to:

  • Understand the legal and ethical frameworks related to hate speech and hate crimes in media contexts.
  • Identify discriminatory narratives and harmful language in journalistic content.
  • Apply inclusive, gender-sensitive, and responsible language in communication practices.
  • Develop alternative narratives that counter hate speech and promote tolerance.
  • Improve practical skills through case analysis and simulated media coverage exercises.

Contenu et structure

The training is structured as a short modular programme delivered through three online sessions. The content addresses legal frameworks, ethical journalism, the role of language in shaping narratives, and practical approaches to responsible media coverage, combining conceptual inputs with applied learning components.

Méthodologie

The methodology is participatory and practice-oriented, combining expert-led presentations, analysis of real cases, guided discussions, and practical simulations. Interactive online tools are used to foster engagement and peer learning. An evaluation component is included to assess learning outcomes.

Audience cible
