Arrière plan

The devastating impact of calamities evidently manifest our vulnerability to natural disasters. A disaster leaves a trail of damage and devastation leading to diseases and disruption of normal lives. Disasters threaten the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, most especially the underlying target of poverty reduction. Climate change affects most the people in vulnerable societies because they have lesser means to mitigate the impacts of a disaster. Poor people lack the money and means to prepare for disasters. But if they are physically able, well aware of risks and well prepared for disasters, they have a much better chance of survival and recovery. Awareness and preparedness are key words in adapting to climate change and coping with disasters.
