Antecedentes

Jeju International Training Center (CIFAL Jeju/JITC) has been organizing the biannual youth workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2013 to empower young people to be an active agent for SDGs achievement by 2030. The workshop provides a unique learning opportunity for both Korean and international students in the Republic of Korea to understand the concept of SDGs and strengthen their capacities to be a global leader through various workshop methods including lecture, field trip, hands-on experience, group work, action planning, discussion and presentation.

The theme of the 14th Youth Workshop is Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP), which is being emphasized in response to the on-going global resource and environmental crisis. SCP is closely linked to our daily lives in the way that it includes efficient use of natural resources through recycling and reuse, reduction of food waste and eco-friendly lifestyles, which help young people get more interested, aware and practiced in everyday life.

Sustainable lifestyles first appear in SDG 4 on education, and SCP is specifically designated as SDG 12. It defines SCP as promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all.  It means that UN Member States reaffirmed SCP as one of the essential requirements for sustainable development.
