Antecedentes

Building upon lessons learned and success of the Trees for Kaimukī initiative, Trees for Honolulu’s Future (TFHF) with partner Smart Trees Pacific (STP) is seeking a $50,000 grant from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program.

Increase the tree canopy to capture myriad benefits 1  2. Improve the food and community resilience of Pālolo neighborhoods 3. Leverage institutional expertise to foster sustainable stewardship within the community that thrives after the grant funds expire

About the project $50,000 grant  Purposes Increase tree canopy Prevent runoff and erosion Improve food and community resilience Mission Achieve above purposes by recruiting volunteer citizen foresters to adopt trees Educate neighborhoods about tree planting Engage neighborhoods in tree mapping Past work of Smart Trees Pacific Inventory and map existing trees on State property (ie. planted on public right of way, sidewalks) Programs in Guam and O’ahu, hopes of expanding to Maui Problem City waters trees with “water truck”, can only water 400 at a time Must drive to and from water source Adopt A Tree Citizens responsible for watering and caring for sapling When ready, city plants tree near volunteer’s home
